Weekly Work
2023 - ?
An “amateur” gathering project: eight friends from different professional backgrounds meet weekly in a woodshop to discuss seating design, casually creating and brainstorming as they go. We try to avoid the pressures of “product design,” treating the process as a game and viewing the results as ongoing experiments in daily life. We both identify and create problems, using furniture as a lens through which to re-experience life. Over the past year and a half, we have generally operated under the following conditions:
1. Design based on materials. Our exploration always revolved around a fundamental principle: “Create and design based on the dimensions of Finnish pine lumber (2/5/7.5/10 cm thick, 22.5 cm wide).”
2. Simple, quick DIY. During the making process, we used only basic woodworking shop equipment—a table saw, drill press, miter saw, and electric drill—to quickly process the wood, finally securing the pieces with screws or ratchet straps.
3. Sharing and collaboration. The drawings and data generated from the designs, including videos of the making and assembly, will be shared openly via mass media with friends who are interested in making things themselves.
