Exhibition:
Lamps in front of
the park
Artist: Zhang Yongyu, Ye Yiran, No.1 House of Finnish Pine
Exhibition Duration: 2025/01 / 01 - 2025/02/28
Location: Chè gallery, 3rd Floor, No. 7 Changxing Street, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou
In Nanting Village, Guangzhou, there stands a small three-story building that serves as the woodworking studio for No.1 House of Finnish Pine. In addition to members of No.1 House of Finnish Pine, a group of active material creators resides there. They work tirelessly in the studio every day, starting projects whenever and wherever inspiration strikes, working and playing simultaneously, as if they had purchased a labor experience, never tiring. The “Pine House” has become a “loose” identifier for this group of material creators, as well as a physical space where they gather daily to share, discuss, play, labor, and create. Here, they advocate: “Do first, then speak.” They maintain openness, collaboration, trust, understanding, persistence, and a willingness to reinterpret at all times. Each person retains their impulse and self-awareness, embracing chance and other organic processes through physical labor and the act of sculpting. They follow the unique qualities of their chosen materials, primarily creating with Finnish pine and “experiential” objects from daily life. Through intuition, imagination, and the connection of scattered fragments from everyday existence, they discover serendipity in experimentation and incorporate it into the ordered process of sculptural creation.
