Duration: 2025/05/17 - 2025/11/30
Location: Guangzhou Yue+ Cultural and Art Center
Guangzhou’s creative ecosystem is remarkably diverse and inclusive, mirroring the city’s laid-back and untamed character to create a unique, carefree charm and atmosphere. Seventeen groups of Guangzhou-based creatives have gathered here with their outstanding design works and creative practices across various genres, seeking to understand the city through the lens of design and creation.
“ No.1 House of Finnish Pine” is a project centered on hands-on creation. Its eight members, hailing from diverse professional backgrounds, aim to communicate through labor using simple technical and material languages. They collaborate and operate in an “amateurish” manner; with this mindset, they approach their work with ease and curiosity, resulting in many intriguing creations. “Keep doing,” “Think while doing,” “Think on your feet,” and “Set up a stage to eat” are their creative approaches. This improvisational approach allows them to move beyond the “thinking” stage and find solutions through the continuous process of “doing.” Guangzhou provides them with an environment that accommodates this relatively relaxed, unstructured creative state. Unburdened by external expectations or the pursuit of conventional values, they can follow their hearts—even setting aside the search for meaning—and find fulfillment simply in the sincere connections forged during the creative process.

This exhibition is itself an act of improvisation. After viewing the venue two days before installation, we quickly revised our original wooden house design into a structure resembling a roof. Visitors can stand and look down at the videos, lie on it and daydream, or sit under the “eaves” to watch the video works on the walls… changing the way they view the art and getting their bodies moving. We placed blueprints for five different chairs on tables at the venue; visitors who like them can pack them up and take them home.
